The Best of Enemies
By Mark St. Germain
Suggested by the book The Best of Enemies by Osha Gray Davidson
Directed by Julianne Boyd

September 4, 2010 - September 5, 2010

Join us and be one of the first to see a staged reading of Mark St. Germain's new work The Best of Enemies.

The Best of Enemies, inspired by the book by Osha Gray Davidson, is the story of C.P Ellis, Exalted Cyclops of the Ku Klux Klan, and black civil rights activist Ann Atwater. Fueled by the hatred they felt for each other, Ellis and Atwater faced off as members of a committee for school desegregation in Durham, N.C in 1971.

The Best of Enemies exposes the poison of prejudice in the hearts of Atwater and Ellis, who by facing each other are forced to face the worst, and best, in themselves. Author and historian Studs Terkel called their dramatic journey "one of the most moving love stories I've ever come across."

St. Germain is the author of the critically-acclaimed Freud's Last Session, which played at Barrington Stage for a limited engagement earlier this summer before opening Off-Broadway to critical acclaim.
